Kabingara AB delivers crisp acidity of red apple, followed by a sweetness akin to maple syrup and a lingering aftertaste of raisin. We hope you'll enjoy this coffee as much as we do.

The town of Kamwana in the region of Kirinyaga sits to the south of Mount Kenya. The high altitude provides warm days and cool nights that help to nurture sweet and dense cherries. The smallholder farmers who live and work in this area grow their coffee crops in gardens averaging less than 1 hectare. The farmers handpick ripe cherries and deliver them to Kabingara Factory, which is owned and operated by Karithathi Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS).

At the factory, the cherries are pulped, fermented, washed and dried on raised beds for 7-14 days; this is how most coffee in Kenya is treated post-harvest, and though coffee growing in Kenya started relatively recently, the country holds a reputation for high quality and attention to detail.

Kenyan coffees are sorted by size; AB beans are those between screen size 15 and 18, which are beans that are between 6 and 7 mm in size.

SL varieties are well-known Kenyan coffee varieties, bred by Scott Agricultural Laboratories (SAL). SAL was founded in 1903 by the Kenyan Colonial government to function as a research institution studying agricultural products. SL-28 and SL-34 quickly became the varieties of choice for most growers. Their deep root structures helped them acquire water in the dry environments present throughout much of Kenya, even without irrigation.

Batian was introduced in 2010 by the Kenya Coffee Research Institute, it is resistant to CBD and CLR diseases and matures quickly, yielding crops after only two years. Similarly, Ruiru 11 is also known for its resistance to disease and high yields in two years.
